Caddo Parish training FAQ
How much does training cost in Caddo Parish?
Red River Obedience Training Club starts at about $100 per 4-week class. Bigger jobs or less frequent visits can cost more; the business confirms your price.
Who offers training near Caddo Parish?
K9 Nation LA, Midnight Retrievers, LLC, Red River Obedience Training Club serve Caddo Parish. K9 Nation LA covers Shreveport, Bossier City, and Stonewall.
Should I choose group classes or private in-home training?
Group classes suit puppies and dogs learning basic obedience and manners, and they give your dog practice around other dogs and people. In-home training suits problems that happen at home, such as jumping on guests, barking at the door or house training, because the trainer sees them where they occur. A dog that cannot settle around other dogs usually needs private work first.
What is board and train, and is it right for my dog?
In a board and train program your dog lives with the trainer for a set period and is trained every day, then you are taught how to carry it on. It fits owners who cannot do daily practice in the early stage. It only lasts if you keep up the same rules at home, so ask how many hand-over lessons are included and what follow-up you get.
What is day training?
With day training you drop your dog off, or the trainer works with it, for the day, and the dog comes home at night. The trainer does the teaching and you get shown what was covered so you can practice. It sits between classes, where you do all the training, and board and train, where the dog stays away from home.
What training methods should I ask a trainer about?
Ask plainly what the trainer does when a dog gets something right and when it gets something wrong, and which tools they use. Some trainers state that they are reward-based only, meaning no prong, choke or shock collars, and those listings carry a "Reward-based only" tag. A trainer's own description of their methods is what you have to compare.
Can a trainer help with an aggressive or reactive dog?
Some can, but not every trainer takes these dogs, so say so up front. Look for the "Aggression & reactivity" tag, and expect to start with a behavior consultation, not a group class. A sudden change in behavior can have a medical cause, so see your vet first to rule that out.
How much work will I have to do myself?
Some, whatever the format. A trainer teaches the dog and teaches you; the dog then needs short daily practice from the people it lives with. In classes and in-home lessons you do most of the practice between sessions. In day training and board and train the trainer does more of the early work, but you still have to keep it going at home.
