How we make money

Short version: using Louisiana Pet Services is free, and so is being listed. Businesses marked Partner pay us a commission when someone we send them becomes a customer. That never changes your price. Partners are shown first, and they are always labelled.

Where the money comes from

Most listings are free: we put them together from a business's own website and other public sources, and the business pays us nothing. A Partner is a business we've talked to, trust, and have an agreement with. When you click through to a Partner's site, use their Lagniappe code, or send them a quote request, and that turns into a sign-up, order or booking, the Partner pays us an agreed amount: a set amount or a percentage of the sale, depending on the business and the service.

Today that's our only income. We don't sell your information, we don't run ads, and we don't charge pet owners anything.

What it changes, and what it doesn't

• Your price. You pay the business its normal price. Commissions come out of what the business earns, not on top of what you pay.
• The order of listings. Partners appear first among the businesses that serve your area, and every one carries a Partner label. Paying is never enough on its own: we only make a business a Partner after talking to them. After Partners come listings an owner has claimed (marked Owner verified), then the ones we gathered ourselves, with the fuller listings first in each group. Nobody can pay to move up within a group. On a business’s own page we also show others who do the same job nearby, Partners first; a Partner’s page shows only that Partner.
• Who gets listed. No business pays to be listed, or to claim its listing and manage it, and a business that isn't a Partner is shown all the same.
• What we say about a business. Listings describe what the business offers and where it goes. We don't write reviews for anyone, paid or otherwise.

Lagniappe codes

A Lagniappe code is a discount a Partner offers only to people who find it through us. Using one helps the business know you came from Louisiana Pet Services, which is how we get credit for the referral. The discount itself comes from the business.

How we know a referral happened

When you click a "Visit" button we record the click (which business, from which page, and when) and add a note to the link saying the visit came from us. Partners also report customers who came from us. None of this is tied to your name. See our privacy policy for details.
